DEFENDING champion Jamie Blondel might have wished for an easier start to the defence of his Intertrust men's island championship title.

In a 48-man draw, that starts on Sunday and runs all next week, Blondel has a bye in the opening round as he awaits the winner of the match between veteran former finalist Micky King and the combative La Grande Mare first-team regular, Wasif Anees.

The draw is topped and bottomed by the leading two seeds, Bobby Eggo and Danny Blondel.

It is five years since Eggo won the title for the 10th time and to get to the last eight he will have to overcome Ivan Donaldson in round one and either Ben Rolph or Damien Bent in the next, before a more testing third-round clash with either Jack Mitchell, last year's losing finalist, or Tom Le Huray.
