The big prize is for Brize
GUERNSEY PANTHERS will have to make do with another Division Three South season after missing out on promotion for the second season running in the play-offs.
The Sarnians went into Saturday's round-robin tournament in Guildford with high hopes, but one win from three games meant they fell short of the sole Division Two place on offer.
That prize went to Brize Jets, who won all three of their games in some style, including a thumping 34-18 win over Panthers in the final game of the afternoon.
Panthers captain Nena Copperwaite – whose side earlier lost 31-26 to MSN and beat Trinity Oxford in a thriller 32-31 – admitted that on the day, Brize were too good.
'I'm not going to start trying to make any excuses because on the day, Brize were the best team by some distance and deserved to be promoted,' she said.
'There are times like this when you just have to hold your hands up and admit that somebody was too good for you and the rest, which is exactly what they were.
'We will come again and we're learning all the time, we're improving all the time, but it wasn't our day today and I have no complaints.'
