Bowie wins in Cambridge

THREE Guernsey riders have qualified to represent Great Britain at the UCI Amateur World Championships in Denmark later this year.

Eight Sarnians took part in the UCI World Cycling's Tour of Cambridge time trial, which is a new event that's been added to the UK calendar and gives all different age categories the chance to qualify for the 'Worlds' to be held in September.

Karina Bowie won the gold medal in her category with a convincing win of over 34 seconds from her nearest rival, Born to Bike rider Helen Eborall, who took silver with Cambridge rider Christina Cork taking bronze and completing the podium.

Aaron Bailey finished in fourth position in his category and 22nd position overall among the 700 starters, which was a fantastic achievement for the day, and also with Anthony Bleasdale finishing within the top 25% of his category both also secured qualification for the World Championships in Aalborg.
