Jeffery's magnificent seven whitewash Royal Guernsey

LA GRANDE MARE barely gave Royal Guernsey a sniff of victory yesterday as the home side cruised through to the Channel Islands final of the 2015 Hampshire Sevens.

On this evidence, Jersey champions Les Mielles have their work cut out if they want to reach the quarter-finals of the prestigious county competition as they will have to win at La Grande Mare to get to that stage and, as Dave Jeffery's men showed yesterday morning, those are big odds to overcome.

So often Hampshire Sevens matches come down to one or two crucial rubbers that can turn the tide either way by virtue of the handicap system, but it was clear from an early stage of this local Bailiwick final that the hosts were not going to be denied.

On the day, four of the seven rubbers were prolonged as far as the 17th hole, but in truth, only one of those was a really close match throughout.

RESULTS: W. Harwood beat J. Nicolle 8 & 6; W. Anees beat M. Bertrand 3 & 1; CJ Elmy beat I. Carre 5 & 3; L. Sheppard beat A. Eggo 3 & 1; N. Black beat D. Griggs 3 & 1; R. Bateman beat D. Robinson 5 & 4; P. Cosnett beat E. Thompson 3 & 1. La Grande Mare 7, Royal Guernsey 0.
