Island's best two are tied at the top

ONE Eggo brother has replaced another at the top of the Energy Centre Trophy leaderboard after two days of the 72-hole strokeplay competition at L'Ancresse.

Andy was unable to maintain his terrific form of his opening round 65 and could only manage an 83 yesterday to slip to ninth in the scratch standings.

Instead, it was his sibling Bobby who returned the best score – and only under-par gross round – of the second day with a 69.

The island champion carded five birdies, the first two coming on the front nine as he cancelled out back-to-back bogeys on the third and fourth by picking up shots on the next two holes.

Having turned in level par, a three at the 10th took him under par for the first time on the day and although he gave that shot back on the 12th, consecutive birdies on the next two holes put him into red figures once more.

His final blip was a five going up 17.

Bobby Eggo is now joint leader at the halfway stage on 140 with defending champion Danny Blondel, who matched his level-par opening round with another 70 yesterday, as the pair show why they are currently best two amateurs on the island.

Their island teammate Daniel Griggs is three shots back in third, Tom Le Huray slipped to fourth after a 75 which leaves him on 144 and Steve Mahy is fifth one stroke further back.

However, Le Huray is top of the leaderboard in the UV Trophy played off handicap as he is currently two-under-par.
