The announcement of the move comes alongside that of another wild-card entry in the form of the inaugural Ravenscroft Open champion in 2013 – La Grande Mare's island player and current captain, Dave Jeffery.

'Obviously I'm delighted to receive a wild card, having won the tournament in 2013 and then played pretty ordinary golf in losing in the semis last year,' said the man who captained his club to that remarkable 7-0 scoreline over the Royal Guernsey in last weekend's Hampshire Sevens final.

'It is great to be invited back and to have another chance at winning this great tournament on my home course.'

With Trystan Perkins landing the island junior matchplay title last weekend and Jeffery's inclusion, 13 of the 16-man field are now known, all having qualified via other means or – in the case of the NatWest Island Games gold medallist from 2013, Jerseyman Gavin O'Neill, and former Ryder Cup player Norman Wood – having received a wild-card.

The final three places will be claimed by the top-three finishers off scratch at the La Grande Mare qualifier on the eve of the four-day Ravenscroft Matchplay event, which starts on Monday 13 July.

The 13 confirmed starters are:

Bobby Eggo, Alex Guelpa (Jersey), Gavin O'Neill (Jersey), Danny Blondel, Steve Mahy, Jamie Blondel, Michael Durcan (RGGC professional), Daniel Griggs, Jeremy Nicolle, George Melhuish, Norman Wood (former tour professional), Trystan Perkins and Dave Jeffery.
