Eggo to face Mahy in Ravenscroft final

THE giant-killer is out but the champion's reign continues.

Island junior champion Trystan Perkins had his brilliant run in the Ravenscroft Guernsey Open Matchplay ended last night by Steve Mahy, who needed a birdie on the first extra hole of their epic semi-final to finally see off the 16-year-old, but it was a much different story in the other last-four clash.

Bobby Eggo was in imperious form in the rematch of this year's Channel Islands final with Jersey star Alex Guelpa, who was barely given a sniff of a chance as he was beaten 5 and 3.

The defending champion went out in 29 at La Grande Mare thanks to three birdies in the first six holes and was 5 up by the turn.

To his credit, Guelpa never threw in the towel and managed to reduce the deficit by a couple of holes over the next four, but in the end he had to bow to Eggo's superiority on the day.
