Cobo retain Evening League crown

THE Rozel Shield will remain in the possession of NGIT Cobo for another year after the defending champions sealed another title last night in a thrilling tie against Canaccord Griffins.

Needing only to avoid defeat in any of their final three games, Cobo took that to the extreme as they chased 151 and ended up 151 all out off the final ball of the game.

'Our bowling let us down a bit tonight – we conceded 19 extras, which could have cost us the game,' said Cobo captain Jamie Nussbaumer.

'It was actually a pretty decent run chase because we stayed up with the rate for the majority, but we just kept losing wickets and in the end we ended up using them all.'

Nussbaumer added that he was glad to have the title defence done and dusted with games in hand.

'We wanted to get it finished as soon as we could because had we lost this game there would have been pressure going into the next game, so it was good to get it done tonight.'

It is the 17th time Cobo have won the Rozel Shield outright, having shared it on one other occasion.

'We have a long history with this competition – I think we have won it nine out of the last 11 seasons,' Nussbaumer said.

'We have always been a very good Evening League club. The competition suits us well.'
