Following the announcement during Jersey 2015 that Menorca were unable to host the Games in four years' time, Gibraltar approached the International Island Games Association and asked for the opportunity to prepare a formal bid document.
The IIGA have now formally invited the Gibraltar Island Games Association to submit the standard bid documentation by the end of September 2015.
Jorgen Pettersson, IIGA chairman, said that he was very pleased to give Gibraltar this opportunity.
'It is the policy of the IIGA to give smaller member islands a chance to be the hosts and it is good to see Gibraltar taking up the challenge.'
