Jeffery holes from 30ft on the last to set new record

A NEW putter was the catalyst as Dave Jeffery set a new course record at La Grande Mare on Saturday – just 20 days after Paul Cosnett had broken it.

Club champion and captain Jeffery carded a three-under-par 61 gross in the September Medal to take one stroke off the standard set by his vice-captain Cosnett, who had shot a 62 in the second round of the Club Championship on the last Sunday in August.

The new record holder said, with a degree of understatement, that 'the round obviously went very well'.

Jeffery made birdies at the first, 12th and 13th holes before his solitary dropped shot of the round came at the 14th.

Three pars then followed, meaning he had to birdie the par-five last to beat Cosnett's record and he holed a 30ft putt to do just that.
