Barnes comes off bench to seal another Guernsey Raiders victory

THERE is no substitute for class and, as struggling Westcliff pushed Raiders all the way at Footes Lane, the home team had that special player to make all the difference.

Malcolm Barnes is the name and from the unlikely position of the wing, the Kiwi maestro settled this terrifically combative and close game with a late try to keep Raiders in the promotion race with a fourth win in six starts in National Three London and South East.

And when Glen Walters, who enjoyed a great game with both boot and ball in hand, kicked the extras with six minutes remaining, the locals in the Garenne Stand could finally relax with a 24-15 success.
