McKenzie to captain Priaulx League representative side

A TRIO who tasted glory in 2010 will lead Guernsey's charge for FA Inter-League Cup glory six seasons on after Steve Sharman named his squad to face the Southern Amateur League.

Less than a fortnight after being announced as manager, Sharman has selected the 20 that he believes will be good enough to win next month's home match and reach the quarter-finals.

As expected, it is a group dominated by the Priaulx League's top two teams – North and Vale Rec – with the former providing both the captain and vice-captain.

Ollie McKenzie will skipper the side with Simon Tostevin his deputy in that regard and they will be joined by six of their North colleagues.

The other man who survives from Tony Vance's cup-winning team from that glorious evening at the Track five springs ago is Bels' Joby Bourgaize, who played every minute of that run at right-back.

'This is very much a two-year programme, not focusing on just one game,' said Sharman.

'But the performances and experience of Ollie, Simon and Joby in a variety of representative football, including the Inter-League Cup, Island Games and Murattis is invaluable.

'Their leadership is vital both on and also off the pitch.'
