Gibraltar's rescue package for 2019 Island Games finalised
GIBRALTAR will host a scaled-down version of the NatWest Island Games in 2019 with football, cycling, volleyball and golf among the sports missing out.
After the withdrawal of Menorca as hosts, Gibraltar stepped forward to plug the gap late in the day and needed to submit their bid document to the IIGA by the end of September.
They have now done that and are on course to host the Games, assuming the master contract is now signed at the next AGM, but it will be on a far smaller scale.
Only a dozen sports are being offered and among that list are ten-pin bowling and judo, both of which have had only sporadic Games appearances in the past.
Gibraltar 2019
