Sylvans without injured Williams for long term

AHEAD of just their third game of this FNB Priaulx League season, Martyn de Garis admits it is already imperative that Sylvans win to keep in touch with the big two.

Seven weeks have passed since Sylvans began the season with a dramatic last-gasp win against St Martin's, but a heavy defeat to North is the only game they have had in the meantime.

It means that Sylvans coach de Garis is delighted to have the opportunity of another game, this time at Rangers, as part of a Saturday triple-header in the league.

With Vale Rec and North setting the early pace and rattling in goals for fun, de Garis knows that it is already crunch time for his side that finished runners-up last season.

'It is still very early days because of our lack of games, but it is a must-win game for us because Rec and North are relentless at the top already and scoring lots of goals,' he said.

'You can also throw Rovers into that category at the moment, so we can't afford to lose ground early if we are to have serious aspirations of being up there as the season progresses. 'With all due respect to Rangers, it is a game we should be winning.'

That clash at St Andrew's will see Rangers trying to get their first points of the season, while de Garis and Sylvans will be without goalkeeper Ashley Williams for the long-term after he dislocated his knee for a second time.

At the Corbet Field, unbeaten Vale Rec will look to move back to the top of the table and clear of the rest with a fourth straight win when they host St Martin's.

The other in-form, Rovers, would move to at least second place with a win at the Track against Bels, potentially top if Rec were to slip up.

  • All three matches kick off at 2pm tomorrow.
