ALICE LOVERIDGE stunned the top seed and defending champion Garry Dodd in a late-night classic to settle the Whistlers Open at the GTTA Centre.

In what will go down as one of the greatest ever finals on home soil, Loveridge edged a match of blistering rallies – many of them played as far from the table as the tight court two would allow – vicious spin and scything strokeplay, 10-12, 19-17, 11-3, 10-12, 11-8.
It was just before midnight when Dodd, who was playing his fifth five-setter of the evening, went too long and succumbed.
