Track set to get a facelift as club builds momentum

A REFURBISHED track is the big plan for 2016 as Guernsey karting looks to continue riding the crest of a wave.

Just a few years after entry numbers at the famous Track at Victoria Avenue were worryingly low, there is now something of a boom developing.

With more drivers in the senior ranks set for next year's series, those taking part look like they will have a fresh challenge – a new track for the first time in more than 40 years.

Karting captain Dave Hockaday explained more about the work that will cost in the region of £70,000 to complete when the green light is given, hopefully in the coming days or weeks.

'This has been one of our big aims for the last few years now because although the track is still race-able at the moment, it is getting worn and not too far off needing to be done,' he said.

'It will be completely re-tarmacked but there will also be a couple of changes to it and as a result, a quicker back straight and a couple of new corners.'
