The names of 32 players from across the islands went into the bag to decide groupings for this Saturday's event and after Ravenscroft's Katy Sandrey and the association's Maurice James had completed their work, groups A and C stood out as notably tough.

The top four from each eight-strong group will go through to the last 16 with the ultimate prize being an all-expenses appearance at the Sky Sports televised World Championships weekend at Alexandra Palace in London.

Four players were seeded, but among the notable floaters were Island Games champion Alice Loveridge, Guernsey men's title-holder Josh Butler and two leading Caesareans in Chris Morshead and Jack Mills. The completed draw was as follows: (seeds in capitals)
