Last two Stranger Cup semi-final spots up for grabs

A PAIR of head-to-head qualifying showdowns bring the Stranger Cup group stage to a close tonight, with Vale Rec and Rovers the favourites for semi-final berths.

North and Sylvans have both already progressed as group winners with a 100 per cent record, but the runners-up spot in both round-robin pools is up for grabs.

The Corbet Field witnesses a straight winner-takes-all clash between Vale Rec and Guernsey U18, with a draw benefitting the hosts, but things are even more intriguing at the Track.

Bels host Rovers knowing that they must not only beat their visitors, but do so by a big margin to progress to climb above them on goal difference.

Although a high-scoring four-goal win could do it, the likelihood is that to usurp Rovers to second place, Bels must win the match by five clear goals.

Both of tonight's Stranger Cup games kick off at 7.30pm.
