Beere off to a perfect start in the singles

LUCY BEERE had an outstanding first day of singles competition at the Atlantic Championships in Cyprus yesterday.

She beat Havva Konanc from Turkey 21-14 then overcame Miriam Ndungu from Kenya 21-12 and she tops section one with two wins and 16 shots, followed by Ireland (two wins and 13 shots) and Scotland (one win and 12 shots).

The Guernsey men's fours also enjoyed a double win, beating Turkey 27-7 and then Namibia 22-20.

Todd Priaulx lost 21-18 to multi-world champion Darren Burnett from Scotland but beat Clive Robertson from Zimbabwe 21-17.

The women's four beat Jersey 21-10, but lost to South Africa 32-10.
