Glory for GIAAC in the Hampshire mud
THE GIAAC men's team claimed an historic first win at the Hampshire Cross-Country Championships at Fairthorne Manor in Botley on Saturday.
Led home by individual gold medallist Lee Merrien, who won in 40min. 5sec., the Guernsey six finished well clear in the team standings with a combined 60 points compared to second-placed Southampton on 98.
It was a hugely successful day for the club with further age-group titles for Vicky Hancock (under-11s), Ulrike Maisch (over-35s), Danny Ray (under-20s) and Alan Rowe (over-50s).
Meanwhile, Sarah Mercier took silver in the senior women's race and there were also medals for Summer Woodhead (U11 bronze), Katie Rowe (U20 bronze) and Sam Culverwell (U15 bronze), while the veteran men's team also picked up a bronze.
