Cricket funding cut after ICC review
FUNDING for Guernsey cricket has been slashed by the International Cricket Committee and a 'disappointed' GCB chief executive, Mark Latter, has criticised the world body by saying 'it is no way to run a business'.
The base level of funding both Jersey and Guernsey receive from the ICC will fall significantly this year when compared to 2015, following a fundamental review carried out by the ICC development committee – the body which administers cricket away from the Test-playing nations.
Although now playing at the same level in world cricket, Guernsey are worse off than Jersey who, after qualifying for the World Twenty20 Qualifier in Scotland and Ireland last summer, will receive a bonus sum which helps compensate.
Latter said that the cash deficit has caused the GCB problems and led to a tightening of their belts.
'We are supposed to put forward three and five-year plans and now we are on a new one-year cycle re finance.'
The two Channel Islands are producing better cricketers than perhaps ever before, but that seemingly cuts no ice with the ICC.
'It is now all a numbers game,' said Latter.
