Running a time of 48.01sec. to win the title in Sheffield, the 19-year-old was within three-tenths of his personal best time on a track not necessarily suited for quick times.
Watching on was Guernsey's athletics development officer Tom Druce, who was delighted to see the now Bath-based Chalmers become national king.
'It is a massive achievement because for all of the great wins he has already had at various events, to say you are the No. 1 in the country is something pretty special,' said Druce.
'Cameron was pushed extremely hard by Owen Richardson, who had beaten him in Wales a week earlier, meaning that Cameron flew through the first 200m in 22.31 – quicker than when he ran his PB. But saying that, I never felt there was any doubt of Cameron not winning it because he looked in such complete control all weekend.'
