CI teams await crucial decision
SURINAME'S fate after an ICC enquiry into the legitimacy of their success in last September's ICC World Cricket League Division Six should be known soon.
And the verdict has taken on added importance in Guernsey and Jersey after it was revealed that this May's World League Five in Jersey may send as many as three of the six nations tumbling out of the structure.
Nobody is more interested in the outcome than Guernsey Cricket Board chief executive Mark Latter.
'We know that the ICC legal people are looking at the submissions taken. There was a meeting the first week of February in Dubai and we would expect to hear an outcome at some point.'
Throughout the Essex-based event, there were rumours aplenty about the eligibility of several players in the team who won the title by beating Guernsey in the final.
Those rumours originated from the South American nation itself after local politician and publicist Radjen Kisoensingh had launched a strong attack on the team selection describing it as 'three Surinamers and 11 Guyanese'.
There were serious doubts about the eligibility of at least six key members of the squad, including star all-rounders Muneshwar Patandin, who scored a century against Guernsey in the group stage, and Gavin Singh, who was man of the match in the final and also player of the tournament.
