Saffery Guernsey Panthers 47, Tongham Tornadoes 28

WITH a blockbuster away game a fortnight away, Guernsey Panthers did the simple bit of their promotion bid by thrashing winless Tongham Tornadoes.

Division Three South play-off chasing Panthers were huge favourites for a big win over the league's basement side at Beau Sejour yesterday and duly delivered in their final home match of the season.

As well as a 19-goal success, they also delivered on their pre-match promise of giving as many of their 12-player squad lengthy court time.

Isla Murdoch was the only unused player in the squad, with the trio of Charlotte Hill, Lorna Hall and Ella Staples the only players to remain on court throughout.

How much extra can be learned about Panthers' strength is debatable, given the inadequacies of Tongham, but they will be pleased with how the afternoon unfolded.

Aside from a slow start – when Tongham led 3-1 very early on – it was one-way traffic as the hosts extended their lead in each of the four quarters.
