With a performance that has shot him up various all-time leaderboards and standings, he secured his second big title in a week after scooping the National U20 Indoors crown seven days earlier.
It was the 19-year-old's second PB run in less than three hours, after he clocked a rapid 47.69 in winning his semi-final and setting up a final showdown with 2015 winner David Hall.
Despite Hall leading at the halfway stage before the lanes merged, Chalmers sprinted past him on the final straight for a fantastic victory.
When the clock stopped at 47.40, it meant that Chalmers became the fifth-fastest British junior of all time indoors, as well as the second-fastest junior in Europe in 2016.
'It is pretty cool to hear those kind of statistics,' he said.
'But I didn't know about them until I saw them on Twitter in the evening because I was just concentrating on trying to win the final, which I wasn't expecting.
'I knew David Hall would be quick and I was tired going into the final, so I never, ever expected to run another PB time so quickly after doing one in the semi-final.
'When I was following him around for much of the race I thought I would have to accept silver, but gave it everything I had on the final straight and could feel myself gradually going past him.
'Considering the amount I have run lately, that has to be the best performance of my career.'
Chalmers now has one big indoor event remaining – the Senior Nationals this weekend – before focus switches to what promises to be an exciting outdoor season.
