An era drawing to a close at Footes Lane
THE champions roll into town tomorrow as Guernsey Raiders look to end their National Three London & South-East campaign on a high.
London Irish Wild Geese visit Footes Lane having sealed the title last week with their victory over second-placed Tonbridge Juddians, but the home side will be in no mood to give them a celebration party as the game holds added significance for the hosts.
Most importantly, it will be the final time that the club's longest-serving captain of the modern era will lead his side out in league competition.
Blair Campbell has been a terrific servant to GRC since arriving in 2007, playing an integral part of three promotions and he has captained the side since 2010, but he will be stepping down from first-team action after next month's Siam Cup.
'We have a captain's board up in the club and BC has basically doubled anything that anyone before him has done in terms of years,' said GRC director of rugby Jordan Reynolds.
'It has been a journey for him, but he is just keen to get the game on – that it is his last time leading the troops out in the league will not be a big deal for him going into the game, although he might reflect on it afterwards.'
It will be also the final league game for Cameron Craine before he retires from first-team duty while Glen Walters and Eamon Chapman will be making their last National League appearances for the club as their visas expire in the summer.
