FOUR of Guernsey's finest team up with their Jersey counterparts this weekend to take on the best amateurs in Hampshire in their annual challenge match.

L'Ancresse duo Danny Blondel and Steve Mahy are joined by Royal Guernsey's Tom Le Huray and Jeremy Nicolle in the Channel Islands side, which is completed by reigning Jersey champion Alex Guelpa, Island Games player Jeremy Phillips and former CI champions Matthew Parkman and Gavin O'Neill.

Albeit a strong octet of islanders, they will have their work cut out to regain the trophy from a powerful Hampshire line-up who won last year's match at L'Ancresse 7-5.

Three of the home side – captain Tom Robson, Mark Thistleton and Ryan Henley – are county champions while another, Scott Gregory, is an England squad member who recently finished runner-up in the Spanish Amateur Championship.

This year's match will be played at Hockley Golf Club, which overlooks Winchester, and comprises four foursomes rubbers tomorrow followed by eight singles matches on Sunday.
