Eggo to start his defence against Anees

BOBBY EGGO has been handed a tricky draw when he begins his quest for a 12th island crown on Monday.

The defending champion, who is once again the top seed, will face renowned match-play competitor Wasif Anees in the first round of the Intertrust Guernsey Championship at L'Ancresse.

It is one of several intriguing first-round ties, with second seed and last year's runner-up Danny Blondel up against former Guernsey regular Dave Nicolle in his opener on Tuesday.

The first round also includes a meeting between Danny Bisson and Dave Jeffery while good friends Jeremy Nicolle and Robbie Garner go head-to-head on Tuesday.

In a field of 40 entrants, Sunday's preliminary round has thrown up a couple of big clashes, too, with one of last year's inter-insular team set to make an early exit after multiple former champion Nigel Vaudin was drawn against his Royal Guernsey club-mate Sean Mills.

Meanwhile, the in-form Tom Le Huray will face upcoming CJ Elmy with the reward for the winner being a meeting with third seed Daniel Griggs in the first round.

Another former champion, Jack Mitchell, will also get his campaign under way on Sunday against Neil Tanguy.

If all goes according to seeding, defending champion Eggo will meet his brother Andy in the semi-finals while the bottom half of the draw would see quarter-finals of Griggs versus Steve Mahy and a clash of the Blondel cousins Danny and Jamie.
