Former champions knocked out on opening day
TWO former champions fell in yesterday's preliminary round of the Intertrust Island Men's Championship.
Both Nigel Vaudin and Jack Mitchell saw their bids to regain the title end on the opening day at L'Ancresse with Vaudin beaten by his Guernsey teammate, Sean Mills, and Mitchell defeated by the in-form Neil Tanguy.
However, the best match of the afternoon saw young CJ Elmy come from 4 down through 12 holes to beat CI player Tom Le Huray at the first extra hole and earn a first-round tie with Daniel Griggs tomorrow.
In the other prelim matches, Guernsey team manager Danny Vennard edged past Geoff King and will now face Mills today while Chris Warr overcame Ben Rolph to earn a shot at Andy Eggo.
In the bottom half of the draw, there were two wins for L'Ancresse members against La Grande Mare players as Wayne Moore beat Ross Bateman and will now face Tim Carter who defeated Louis Sheppard.
