Elmy adds Griggs to his list of scalps

CJ ELMY continues to make waves in the Intertrust Island Men's Golf Championship.

Published

Following his remarkable come-from-behind victory over Tom Le Huray in Sunday's preliminary round, the 17-year-old returned to L'Ancresse yesterday and dispatched another island player in Daniel Griggs, who became the only seed to fall in the bottom half of the draw so far.

The teenager finished off a close match in great style, too, making an eagle two after finding the heart of the green with his three-wood tee shot at the 16th before a birdie on 17 sealed a 2 & 1 victory.

He will now play Wayne Moore, who saw off L'Ancresse club-mate Tim Carter in 14 holes.

The only other match to even reach the 16th was that between Steve Mahy and Geoff Chadwick, although there was never any danger of an upset despite the island player going through a bad patch mid-round.

Mahy's next opponent is the in-form Neil Tanguy who eased past John Le Lievre.

There were also comfortable opening wins for Jamie Blondel and Mark Bertrand, who will meet tonight having defeated Mark Creber and Graeme Falla respectively.

Meanwhile, Danny Blondel's reward for overcoming Dave Nicolle is a clash with his son Jeremy, who beat Robbie Garner.
