Mason's hopes of qualifying for European Youth Championships suffer unfortunate setback

ED MASON'S dreams of competing in next month's European Youth Championships hang in the balance after a cancelled flight saw him rooted in Guernsey.

The 17-year-old was supposed to be competing at the British Milers' Club Classic in Milton Keynes, where he was aiming to break the 6min. 05sec. qualifying time in the 2,000m steeplechase.

But with his scheduled flight to Gatwick on Saturday morning having technical problems and subsequently cancelled, he missed out on the evening event.
