LEON REID equalled the island all-comers' 100m record of 10.40sec. as he won the men's 100m final at the Intertrust Games at Footes Lane, but it was the javelin throwers who stole the show.

The island all-comers's record for javelin had stood at 63.25m since 1959 when Richard Miller had set that standard, but on Saturdya afternoon it fell three times as Greg Millar became the first man to throw over 70m in Guernsey with a new personal best of 71.12m before Matti Mortimore improved on that mark twice - initially to 73.12m and then to 73.89m on an excellent day of athletics in front of an appreciative Garenne Stand crowd.
