Jersey complete inter-insular clean sweep

THIRTY-SIX years and counting as Guernsey's miserable inter-insular record at the home of the Royal Jersey stretches ever further.

And despite the Sunday morning brilliance of Danny Blondel, who proved to be Guernsey's solitary singles winner, Danny Vennard's debut year as non-playing captain ended in the misery of a 15-5 scoreline.

The 10-point margin may be a tad harsh on the Sarnians, but the records will show it was another bad weekend at Grouville, where they have not won since 1980.

There were brief moments yesterday morning when a surprise escape route for Guernsey seemed possible, but to come away with six points from the 10 singles was always going to be a tall order and time and again those wearing red polo shirts turned difficult positions into winning ones.

Meanwhile, in the women's inter-insular at L'Ancresse, Jersye made it a hat-trick of wins in the biennial contest but only by the narrowest possible margin of 10.5-9.5.

Guernsey won two of the three session – the opening foursomes and the concluding singles – but Jersey's dominance in the four-balls, in which they dropped only half a point, proved decisive.

The weekend completed a clean sweep for Jersey who, earlier this season, had won the seniors inter-insular and the junior version.
