BLAZE laid down a marker of sorts at the Grammar School last night as a new era in local netball got under way with the first game of the new Premier League.

Introduced to ensure tough competitive matches on a weekly basis for the island's top players, it delivered on its promise on night one as these two former league champions battled it out.

Because while Blaze were deserved winners of this opener, they were made to work hard by a Thunder side who were always in touch on the scoreboard.

Ultimately, though, the slightly slicker nature of Blaze's play and far higher turnover rate were key to developing an early lead that was never overturned.
