Second KGV milestone is reached
KING GEORGE V Field reaches another milestone in its multi-million-pound redevelopment this weekend with the official opening of the new Lord's Taverners Pavilion.
Sitting on the site of the original changing rooms which became the Dyslexia Centre before being razed last year, the new pavilion will serve rugby, cricket, football and Touch with four new large changing rooms, each with their own showers blocks, toilets and lockers.
Stuart Falla, chairman of the Guernsey Sports Commission, and the man who has driven forward the project from day one, said: 'it's a milestone and we are celebrating what you could call the second milestone, the first one being the opening of the 3G surface.
'It has taken longer than we hoped, but it was all about raising the money.'
The changing rooms have been designed to Rugby Football Union regulations and team squads of 20, which will also be more than enough for cricket teams of 11 and large cricket bags.
The host for Saturday's opening which will be marked by a day of T20 cricket and lunch, will be John Burley and he will ring the five-minute bell for the first time to mark the start of the game between the Lord's Taverners XI and KGV Kings XI at 3pm.
