Panthers' hard work pays off with impressive victory
SAFFERY PANTHERS secured an excellent away day victory as they put themselves firmly in the early Division Three South promotion hunt at Trinity Oxford.
At a venue and against a team they lost comprehensively to a year ago, Panthers got their revenge in some style with a vital 51-45 success on Sunday.
Even the withdrawal of experienced defender Lorna Hall through illness could not stop the Sarnian outfit from dominating a match that they led by as many as 12 goals at one point.
Although Trinity closed the final gap to half of that, Panthers captain Nena Copperwaite was delighted as her side secured their second win in three this campaign.
'Trinity were stronger than when we faced them last year, so to play the way we did and win the way we did was a really great day for us,' she said.
'Every one of our 10 players in the squad got court time, which shows the options we have now, and even though we could have won by even more, we were always in control and led from the start.
'What is especially pleasing is that the hard work we have put in since the last game has paid off because we knew we had to work on our attacking play and it was really strong here.'
