Premier League giants Reading put seven past Guernsey

But perhaps the hockey giants that are Reading HC – former European champions and winners of this competition two seasons ago – got to hear his suggestion that a major EH Cup upset was possible, and in Sonning yesterday lunchtime made him eat his words with Reading 7, Guernsey 0.

The home side positively feasted on the gallant but out-gunned islanders who left nothing on the pitch, but were chasing the game from very early on as the English Premier League giants sought to put the EH Trophy holders in their place.

Reading's fast, simple play with awesome triangles, proved too much for Guernsey to handle, but in reaching this stage they had shown that the Cup entry had been a worthy experiment and now they can look forward to resuming their EH Trophy defence in early 2017.
