Jersey 'most realistic candidates' to host next WCL5

THE lack of sufficient grass wickets in Guernsey make it likely that Jersey will launch another successful host bid for the next World Cricket League Division Five.

Although no dates have yet been confirmed, the fact that half of the eight competing teams will be European make it likely that the ICC will choose to host it in Europe sometime late next summer.

Jersey, this year's hosts, confirmed over the weekend that they intend to make a declaration of interest, with the deadline for that 11 days away, but also hinted they would be open to a joint pan-island bid with Guernsey.

However, that is something that Guernsey Cricket Board chief executive officer Mark Latter says is unlikely.

'The reality is that with the transport links being problematic between the two islands, you couldn't rely on them and it would make a joint bid unrealistic,' he said.

'So, if the tournament is in Europe and therefore in the first couple of weeks of September 2017 as would be likely, Jersey look the most realistic candidates.'
