It was a mixed Sunday for two of Guernsey's island sports sides competing in UK leagues.

Because while Saffery Panthers won their crucial Division Three South netball clash against Woodley, there was yet another defeat for struggling Guernsey FC.

Panthers are in with a real chance of promotion this season and a 52-40 victory over rivals Woodley opens up the advantage they currently enjoy in third spot.

The game at Beau Sejour was in the balance with just a quarter to go as Woodley led by one, but a magnificent final 15 minutes won it for Panthers.

A couple of hours later, it was Hastings United leaving Footes Lane the happier side, though, as Jerome Sobers' goal was enough for a 1-0 win over their Guernsey FC host.

The results leaves the Sarnians still just seven points above the Ryman South relegation zone.

  • Full reports of both matches, as well as Guernsey Rugby's big victory over Southend Saxons on Saturday, will be in Monday's Guernsey Press.
