The home side had posted 204 for 7 after being asked to bat by new Jersey captain Chuggy Perchard, with Matt Stokes making 72 – the only half-century of the match. The other major contributions came from Ollie Newey (40) and Jason Martin (38 not out) against some disciplined Jersey bowling.

The Reds seemed to be easing to victory at 93 for 2 at the halfway mark of their reply, but Guernsey kept plugging away and wickets fell regularly before a crucial eighth-wicket stand of 35 between Perchard and Jake Dunford got Jersey to within three of victory and Dunford saw them home with two balls to spare.

‘It was a bit of a tight one at the end but fortunately Jake [Dunford] and Elliot Miles managed to get us over the line to great relief,' Perchard said.
