Top British throwers and hurdlers aim for all-comers’ records
AT LEAST three separate all-comers’ records are expected to be under threat on Saturday as some of Britain’s best arrive at Footes Lane for the Intertrust Games.

A pair of mixed gender throwing events – the discus and the javelin – are headlined by several high-ranked UK competitors, while the men’s 400m hurdles and women’s 100m hurdles are the other two big showdowns.
Headlining the discus entry list is Brett Morse, the Welshman who threw for Great Britain at the Olympic Games in London back in 2012.
As for the 400m hurdles, Guernseyman Ala Chalmers is the reigning Island Games gold medallist, with Sam Wallbridge and Dale Garland also achieving the feat for Guernsey in the past.
They will be joined by 2011 champion James Forman who, since that victory for the Isle of Wight, has gone on to achieve a top-10 ranking consistently in the UK.
However, they will all be chasing Niall Flannery, the British No. 4 and World Championship semi-finalist from 2015, who has run a season’s best of 49.74.
That makes the all-comers’ record of 51.00, held by Garland, very attainable and event organiser Tom Druce admits he expects it to disappear tomorrow.
‘Looking at the records, I would expect the all-comers’ record to go in each of the 400m hurdles, women’s 100m hurdles and the discus because of the standard coming over.'
