Italy the opening opponents as Guernsey begin quest for World Cricket League promotion
WITH their South Africa trip already yielding a promising warm-up win, Guernsey will start their quest for World Cricket League promotion against Italy on Sunday.
Willowmore is the venue for the opening Group A match for Ash Wright’s men, as they look to climb out of Division Five for the first time ever.
To do so, they must finish in the top two in the four-team round-robin group – where failure to do so will mean relegation – and then win a semi-final.
The brutal format of the competition means there is no margin for error and Guernsey know they must be on their game against an experienced Italian side.
‘The aim is to win the tournament and get promoted, like any team taking part in the competition,’ explained Guernsey captain Jamie Nussbaumer, who is set to be fit to bowl despite an ongoing rib problem.
