Memory of agonising 2015 defeat will motivate Guernsey's golfers this time

ATONEMENT for the agonising defeat on home soil two years ago is all the motivation Guernsey need heading into this weekend’s Ravenscroft Inter-Insular at L’Ancresse.

In that edition of the annual clash, the hosts led 6.5-3.5 after the first day, only to see an inspired Jersey fightback snatch victory from them by the narrowest margin.

The Caesareans then retained the trophy with their almost-customary win at Grouville last year, but it is the memory of L’Ancresse 2015 that needs banishing.

‘It should have left a very bitter taste in the mouth for the players that’s still there – it certainly did with me and I was just a caddie that weekend,’ said Guernsey team manager Danny Vennard this week.
