But patched up Raiders had to come from behind to win 25-17 and they were mightily thankful for the power of their scrum to get them over the line as Sutton & Epsom pushed hard in the closing moments in front of a healthy-sized Footes Lane crowd.

Raiders ran in four tries and put hurting bodies on the line, but ultimately they needed that edge in terms of power and ability to pull rabbits out of the hat, all of which pleased their coach, Jordan Reynolds.

‘It was always going to be close – look we didn’t have a back line at all – we had to patch up the side,’ he said satisfyingly after the final whistle.

‘Two of our centres are almost 40 years old and it was always going to be tight and to get the bonus point and they didn’t get anything, we can’t complain,’ he added.
