The Guernsey over-55s champion, now in his second year in the age group, defeated his Jersey counterpart Robbie Messervy 3 & 2 in the final at La Grande Mare on Saturday afternoon.

Eggo got off to a flier as he went four up after only five holes with his opponent struggling to find his form.

However, Messervy could lay claim to arguably the shot of the match on the first hole. Having found a really awkward position with his tee shot next to a tree, the Jerseyman, despite having a branch full of leaves in his face, managed to put his approach to within 15ft.

It was only good enough for a half in fours, though, and then Eggo took control, winning the next four holes.

Messervy did manage to narrow the gap to two on one occasion, but around the course where Eggo has won four consecutive Guernsey Open Matchplay titles, the Sarnian comfortably closed out the match.
