Vale Rec progress in cruise control

AFTER watching Vale Rec cruise through to the Jeremie Cup quarter-finals, Jody Bisson believes his side are capable of winning the competition.

Tomos ap Sion, the scorer of two Vale Rec goals last night, rubs his cheek having just been hit in the face by the ball at close range.

Four first-half goals without reply did the damage against a Manzur side badly overrun and, if truth be told, the scoreline could have been closer to double figures even before Luke Pattimore blew up for half-time.

Although a quickfire double from the Priaulx League new boys gave them a sniff of the most unlikely comeback imaginable, those hopes were snuffed out by a goal-of-the-season contender by Damien Larkin.

Considering that his side had missed a hatful of other gilt-edged chances, including four separate one-on-one opportunities squandered by Toby Le Ray, there were probably some mixed emotions for Rec coach Bisson.

But on the whole he was pleased with his side as they set up a quarter-final with St Ouen.

‘We knew that if we came out and played with a high tempo from the off, pressed them and forced them into mistakes, we would be fine and that is exactly what we did in the first half,’ he said after the 5-2 success.
