Doubling up: Guernsey surfer Louis Tostevin competes in both the boys under-16s and under-18s in Japan.

This event is the largest and most prestigious event in the junior surfing competition calendar and previously it has only been possible for CI surfers to compete as part of a Great Britain team at such events.

The CI squad has an age range from 13 to 18 years.

The team is captained by 17-year-old Victoria College pupil Jay Clayton, who is number two seed for the under 18 boys, and last year’s girls GB captain, 16-year-old Jersey College for Girls student Kitty Brewer, who is number one seed for both the under 16s and under 18 girls categories.

Guernsey surfers Louis Tostevin and Tom Hook also have big roles to play in Japan.

Elizabeth College student Tostevin surfs in the under-18s as well as under-16s, while Hook, 13 and another College boy, joins his fellow Sarnian in the under-16s.
