Short-corner strike settles ‘Upton’ in OVs’ favour
A SOLITARY strike from Ben Rawlinson secured Rathbones Old Victorians their second Upton title in three years on Saturday.
A nail-biting encounter that could have gone either way was decided with 10 minutes to play when the Jersey striker fired a penalty-corner shot into the bottom right corner of Colombians’ goal to seal victory.
‘We’re obviously bitterly disappointed to lose, especially to a late short corner,’ said Colombians captain Zak Damarell.
‘It was a very even, tight game with small margins in it and we had as many chances as them, including a number of wasted short corners.
‘They were well organised and appeared better prepared than us, but everyone put in a massive shift and I couldn’t have asked for more commitment on the day.'
