Northfield a happy hunting ground for Rovers again

FOUR months on from the most important victory in their history, Rovers conquered Northfield again last night to lay down an early FNB Priaulx League title marker.

The first meeting of the campaign between last season’s top two was never likely to reach the thrilling heights of their title shoot-out back in May, but it was still entertaining nonetheless.

Not that it will be any consolation to North because, the wide open and even opening half-hour aside, they were outplayed by the reigning champions, who won 3-1 thanks to goals from Fin Whitmore, Carlos Emanuel and Tyler McKane. Sam Murray scored for the hosts.

At Blanche Pierre Lane, St Martin's beat Rangers 3-1 to stay top of the table.
