Mark Romeril’s side deserved it, too, for their hard work, organisation and their ruthlessness in front of goal as they made their chances count against a Bels side who blew hot and cold.

‘It’s come a couple of games later than we would have liked, but this was an important game for us tonight,’ said a satisfied Romeril, whose side won 5-3.

‘It has almost been a bit of a rebuild for us lately – the team we are playing now is very different to the one we have been known for over the last couple of years – and we have backed some of the younger players to go out and play.

‘We are not the finished article by any means and in the last 10 minutes we invited them onto us and didn’t manage the game particularly well, but it was pleasing to get that first win.’

Their goals came from a Marlon Jardim brace, Malcolm Symons, John Hunt and Ross Yeates. Dan Pollmer scored twice for Bels with Debs Oskita netting the other.
